Do Alpacas Spit?

Not really, they will spit at each other when they are annoyed and they will sometimes spit at us if we are really bugging them like while clipping toenails, but even then they hardly ever do.  Alpacas do not spit at you from across the fence for no reason like some people think they will.
What are Alpacas for?

They are fiber animals, like sheep their "fur" is spun into yarn to knit, crochet and weave various items.  Their fiber does not have the lanolin that sheep wool has that iirritates some people's skin.

What else are they for?

Babies!  The babies, called Cria, are important because the Alpaca herd in the U.S. is still quite small.  Alpacas are originally from South America.  In South America they are also used as a source of meat, but not here.. Yucky!
