The Veggie Garden
When we made our veggie garden plot we made the mistake of tilling under the existing lawn.  Unfortunately, that created a weeding nightmare.  No matter what I do, I cannot keep up with the grass that grows in the veggie garden.  All of the grass sucks up all of the water and everything (except the grass) does horrible.
My plan to combat the weeds (grass) is to create separate raised beds and install drip irrigation with lots of mulch around the plants.
This is what the garden looked like before (in early spring 2005)...
You can see the weed (grass) problem good in this picture.  This photo was taken in the late summer of 2005.  We didn't end up getting any corn, and only got 1 green pepper.  We got much less zucchini than normal too.  I tried to keep up with it in the spring, but we all know how fast grass grows when it is watered frequently.  Weeding it was like manually picking out all of the grass in your lawn.  Impossible!
This is the new design.  Raised beds, with plastic and then mulch down in the walk ways.
NO MORE WEEDS!!!

It's almost done here.

The next step is to install the drip irrigation, and the timer. This year the garden will be automatically watered every 3 days.  All I have to do is weed the garden beds.
